This report, carried out by Oxfam, examines gender in cocoa production in cocoa-growing regions of Ghana. Through focus groups, interviews, and household surveys in the Bia East and Atwima Mponua Districts, the researchers conclude that women contribute substantially to cocoa production yet are often on the margins of the supply chain. Women are faced with several barriers when trying to increase their productivity due to embedded inequalities and patriarchal practices.

The report calls upon stakeholders to design and deliver gender-sensitive interventions to support women’s empowerment.
