This survey, developed by the ICI, assesses the prevalence, intensity and context of child labour and hazardous child labour in cocoa-producing communities in West Africa. The survey tool consists of two questionnaires:

  • A household questionnaire, covering the general socio-economic situation and the composition of the household.
  • A child questionnaire, covering children's involvement in economic activities.

The questionnaires have been developed and tested in the field, based on existing good practice. They are available in English and French.

The information gathered makes it possible to identify whether children are working or in hazardous work, in accordance with ILO Conventions 138 and 182. The questions on children's activities are adapted to the national legislative frameworks relating to illegal hazardous work for children in Ghana in the English version, and in Côte d'Ivoire in the French version.
