On 21 September 2016 a new global alliance was launched at the UN General Assembly with the mission to end forced labor, modern slavery, human trafficking and child labor. Alliance 8.7 was created to help achieve this ambitious undertaking and coordinate with those working on the many interrelated Sustainable Development Goals.

Taco Terheijden, Director of Cocoa Sustainability at Cargill Cocoa & Chocolate, reflects on the importance of SDG 8.7 and how the new Child Labor Monitoring and Remediation System within the Cargill Cocoa Promise will strengthen its efforts to tackle child labor and forced labor in the cocoa supply chain.
