Mars, an ICI partner and board member, marked Valentine’s Day 2020 by publishing their Protecting Children Action Plan. The plan outlines the approach the company will take to address the issue of child and forced labour in their supply chain. ICI welcomes the plan which includes a strong ambition to scale-up good practices by taking a positive supply chain management approach, coupled with action to address root causes.
The plan covers four key areas:

  • Implementation of Child and Forced Labour Monitoring and Remediation Systems to cover 150,000 households by 2025
  • Addressing Women’s Social and Economic Empowerment with a goal to reach 50,000 women in cocoa communities in Côte d’Ivoire and Ghana by 2025
  • Increasing access to quality education and development targeted at children
  • Increasing income

Through partnerships with ICI and others, Mars pledges to implement robust human rights due diligence processes and invest in targeted community assistance to ensure child protection is secured across its supply chain. The plan includes a commitment to transparent reporting on the company’s progress.
