This report explores the activities and impact of the Transforming Education in Cocoa Communities in Côte d'Ivoire programme between 2016 and 2021.

This paper examines the link between school quality and child labour in cocoa agriculture, based on analysis of data from 2168 fifth-grade children from forty-one primary-schools in Côte d’Ivoire.

“Kweku and the bird” is a 4-part 3D-animation series developed by the International Cocoa Initiative for use during child labour awareness-raising sessions. The four episodes show the adventures of 12-year-old Kweku, the son of a cocoa farmer.

ICI has produced a training manual to help practitioners and actors carry out their work against the Worst Forms of Child Labour (WFCL) in an effective and professional manner.

In 2021, ICI joined the Cocoa Coalition, an informal group of cocoa and chocolate companies), certification organisations , NGOs and multi-stakeholder organisations such as ICI, which aims to support the development of relevant legislation, including the EU Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CS3D), the EU Forced Labour Regulation, or the EU Deforestation Regulation, to drive the production of sustainable cocoa within responsibly managed supply chains and within a supportive enabling environment.
