  • Children’s rights key to cocoa sustainability says ICI

    At least one million children in cocoa-growing communities in Cote d’Ivoire and Ghana should have a better future by the end of 2020, according to the International Cocoa Initiative, a leader in child protection in cocoa. A unique partnership between chocolate companies, civil society organisations and cocoa-producing governments, ICI has launched its 2015-2020 Strategy on World Day Against Child Labour at the World Cocoa Conference in Amsterdam.   • Global plan to improve the lives of cocoa farmers announced
    23 May 2014
    Twelve of the world's biggest chocolate and cocoa companies launched CocoaAction, a plan to rejuvenate the cocoa sector and accelerate its sustainability. The launch was accompanied by the signing of two consecutive agreements with the governments of Côte d’Ivoire and Ghana to ensure that 300,000 cocoa farmers (200,000 in Côte d’Ivoire and 100,000 in Ghana), and their communities, benefit from productivity enhancements and community development support over the next 6 years.
