In this short video find out more about our literacy and bridging classes. These classes help to tackle child labour in communities in Cote d'Ivoire by educating both children and adults.

In the community of N’dénou in Côte d’Ivoire, ICI is conducting literacy classes with adults. Cocoa-growing communities often have low levels of education and this can be a factor in exacerbating children’s participation in hazardous child labour. In this community the classes had 48 participants, of which 43 were women. Across other communities in Côte d’Ivoire a total of 279 adults are being taught basic numeracy and literacy skills.

From the cocoa and chocolate industry to civil society representatives (including the newly-elected representative of the Ghanaian General Agricultural Workers Union), ICI’s members affirm that the organisation’s unique strength comes from the shared vision of ‘thriving cocoa-growing communities’ that all its members and partners uphold, communities ‘where children’s rights are respected and protected, and where child labour has been eliminated.’
