This technical summary is intended for stakeholders with an interest in the child labour situation in Côte d’Ivoire and Ghana. It provides a short summary of key findings from the NORC 2018/9 Report, and where possible, places them in context alongside the results of the two previous surveys from 2008/9 and 2013/4, conducted by Tulane University.

The Fair Labor Association has released a social impact assessment of Nestlé’s Child Labour Monitoring and Remediation Systems in Côte d'Ivoire, implemented with the International Cocoa Initiative. The report shows that CLMRS are having a positive impact on child protection and farmer livelihoods and suggests areas to strengthen their impact further.

The United States Department of Labor (USDOL) presents its annual report on the Worst Forms of Child labour. Sectors including cocoa are covered and the report puts forward over 2,000 suggested actions to support governments in 131 countries around the world take action to eliminate child labour.

The International Cocoa Initiative’s 2021-2026 Strategy acts as a road map to achieve scale-up of action within the cocoa sector. At ICI, we want to see cocoa-growing communities thrive within a dignified, sustainable and responsibly-managed cocoa supply chain, where child rights and human rights are protected and respected, where child labour and forced labour are eliminated.

This research, led by UNICEF, examines the impact of the United Republic of Tanzania’s Productive Social Safety Net. The programme provides cash transfers, conditional to be used on health and education services, to extremely poor households.
