This report presents the results of a pilot project, in which targeted cocoa-producing households received a one-off, unconditional cash transfer, combined with a subsidy for hiring adult labour.

The Cocoa Household Income Study Methodology has been developed to measure cocoa household income and living income. This document provides detailed guidance for measuring household incomes and collecting intervention data as well as instructions on designing living income studies in terms of sample selection and analysis.

This meta-analysis includes a comprehensive set of interventions to provide a quantitative assessment of their impact on child labour. The research reviewed 614 studies on child labour and forced labour identified by the ILO's "Research to Action" (RTA) project and an additional 40 recent studies to obtain a sample of 41 randomized and quasi-experimental impact evaluations suitable for the meta-analysis. As several outcomes and interventions are reported in these studies, 131 effect-size estimates were collected; of these, 86 refer to the child’s probability of engaging in any type of activity

The international cocoa sector is increasingly acknowledging the presence of child labour in cocoa-producing regions, which has led to a wide range of sustainability initiatives. A common strategy of cocoa sustainability programmes is to decrease child labour by increasing households’ income towards a living income. This paper aims to explore how household income, farm productivity and alternative income-generating activities are related to child labour prevalence.

This study examines the impacts of an unconditional cash transfer programme on cocoa-growing households in Ghana. The pilot project, set up as a randomized control trial, aimed to test whether cash transfers can help reduce hazardous child labour. It also examines what other impacts cash transfers have on children and their families in this context.
