Two new reports provide a clear picture of the challenges linked to migrant workers in the cocoa sector of Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire and outline what needs to be done to address them.

100WEEKS studied the effects of cash transfer programmes on mothers and children in rural cocoa-farming communities in Côte d’Ivoire.

Côte d'Ivoire launched the 2025–2029 National Action Plan (NAP) to combat child Trafficking, exploitation and labour on 4 June 2025. It focuses on three priority areas: improving children's access to basic social services, reducing the socio-economic vulnerability of families, and strengthening the institutional and legal framework for combating child labour. CUBIC collaborated with Save the Children Côte d’Ivoire to develop an intervention aimed at reducing hazardous child labor on cocoa farms and increasing school attendance. Using behavioral science to guide the process, we developed and tested the “village social contract” model in ten villages in the Man department. It was found that this approach was successful in reducing hazardous child labor and injuries on cocoa farms.
