The International Cocoa Initiative (ICI), today, awarded four schools from four cocoa-growing communities during the commemoration of the 2019 World Day Against Child Labour (WDACL). The schools, Senchi D/A Junior High School (JHS), Nkwankwanua D/A JHS, Ntunkumso D/A JHS and Ahensan D/A JHS were the finalists of the just ended inter-schools quiz competition. Each of these schools received a three-piece set of drums. This was to reward the hard work the schools depicted in qualifying for the final competition.

According to Solomon Kusi, one of the competitors for Nkwankwanua JHS, receiving the drum set is a big gift for their school.

“We used to have some drums which we were using for our weekly worship sessions but those got torn about two years ago. One of the pupils brought an old set for us to use but he took it back when he completed JHS. Receiving these drums has really made our school very happy. Our worship sessions will be livelier now. We are really happy we worked hard enough to make it to the final round of the quiz.”

The eight children who represented the schools in the competition were also rewarded with a package of educational materials which included books, mathematical sets and pens.

The school who won the quiz competition, Ntunkumso D/A Junior High School, was given a trophy by the Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations (MELR), Honorable Wireku Brobbey. The two children, who represented the school in the competition, were also given trophies to commend their efforts.
