This study, produced by the Transport & Infrastructure Expertise Group for the European Commission, analyses the root causes of child labour in the cocoa supply chain in Côte d’Ivoire and Ghana and seeks to identify gaps to be addressed. In addition, it proposes solutions to support the elimination of child labour and the development of sustainable and responsible cocoa production in both countries.

Among other findings, the report notes the need for efforts to eliminate child to be embedded within a functioning institutional support system, a wider systems-based approach to tackle the issue, and greater attention given to poverty reduction, education, youth, gender, and deforestation.
