CUBIC partnered with Dr Amanda Berlan from the University of Leicester, Save the Children Côte d’Ivoire and Save the Children Switzerland to implement and evaluate the Village Social Contract intervention, a community-based intervention aimed at reducing children’s engagement in hazardous tasks on coca farms and improving educational outcomes, using a rigorous cluster randomized controlled trial to generate causal evidence. The intervention had been previously piloted in 10 villages under a separate project and with a different funder, and evaluated using a before/after comparison, showing positive effects on children’s participation in hazardous tasks.
