Training activities

One of the strategies of ICI is to support key actors at the national level in designing and implementing relevant policies and programmes. Sensitization and training of key personnel is essential to create awareness and strengthen capacities. ICI has implemented a training component on the Worst Forms of Child Labour (WFCL) since 2004.

alfred_babo.jpgOur two master trainers, Mrs. Sylvia Hinson and Dr. Alfred Babo, have trained more than 1,625 key people from civil society, the public and private sectors, at 68 training events. This training is contributing to changing the perception of child labour as well as providing practical skills to help combat the problems on the ground. Trainees are from the Ghana Cocoa Board and Local Buying Companies (LBC) staff, the Ivorian Ministry of Agriculture, Cooperatives, Defence and Security Service, NGO partners, Ghana Dpt. of Social Welfare, and media personnel.

In the ICI Capacity Building model, sensitization is an integral part of training and over 90% of participants leave the training anxious to combat the menace of worst forms of child labour, child trafficking and forced labour.” Accra, Ghana, 2008.
