IN 2015 WE HAVE STARTED OUR WORK IN 58 NEW COMMUNITIES IN BOTH CÔTE D’IVOIRE AND GHANA.
Our interactive map below shows you the 58 communities where our core programme is currently active and how we implement child protection measures in them – step by step, day by day, in close collaboration with cocoa farmers and their families.
The community selection process is a careful task which looks at communities’ access to schools and basic services. All of the available information about population and presence of facilities is sourced before ICI’s intervention in the communities.
You can also find out more about the communities where we have made an impact and see how they have changed over time. Operating in Côte d’Ivoire and Ghana since 2007, ICI has promoted holistic child protection measures in 600 cocoa-growing communities benefiting 682,500 children. Here we present six of those communities as examples of the real change that occurs as a result of our work, change that is driven primarily from within the communities themselves. Through the construction of school facilities, the introduction of income generating activities and awareness-raising, these communities represent examples of how an integrated system of community development can help tackle child labour.
