“Haven listened to the submissions of both counsels and considering the evidence brought before this court; I, in accordance with the bye laws of this court, do hereby make the following judgement. Child labour is a major problem the country has had to deal with over the years. It is estimated that over 215 million children, globally, are involved in child labour. This is very worrying as these children are our future leaders… Mr Buckman has contravened Act 561 section 5 subsection v of the Ghana Labour law 2003. He is hereby convicted to a fine of GH₵10,000 and a jail term of three years.” [icinews_slider] These were the words of fourteen year old Richard Fosu as he played the role of the Judge in the trial of a child rights offender. Emboldened by the theme for the day, “kids take over”, Child Protection Club (CPC) members from four communities within the Atwima Mponua district took the stage to address the issue of child labour using various mediums. This trial was staged by CPC members from the Pakyi community.
