Samuel Kwakye is a community facilitator for the International Cocoa Initiative in the Assin district of Ghana. He develops Community Action Plans (CAPs) with the cocoa communities ICI assists in this district, and works on implementing them together with the community members. Samuel helps them set up an internal system through diverse committees or groups that help to monitor, prevent and offer alternative labour sources to child labour. He also connects them with stakeholders on different levels, helps the community children to access education and oversees construction projects when necessary. “What I like most abour our work is the approach we use for our work”, he says. “We do not come to the communities and have all answers to their plights, but we involve and encourage them to come up with their own solutions.”
